Stochastic gravitational wave background: Methods and implications
نویسندگان
چکیده
Beyond individually resolvable gravitational wave events such as binary black hole and neutron star mergers, the superposition of many more weak signals coming from a multitude sources is expected to contribute an overall background, so-called stochastic background. In this review, we give overview possible detection methods in search for background provide detailed review data-analysis techniques, focusing primarily on current Earth-based interferometric gravitational-wave detectors. addition, various validation techniques aimed at reinforcing claim are discussed well. We conclude by listing some astrophysical cosmological implications resulting upper limits waves.

متن کاملGravitational-wave stochastic background from cosmic strings.
We consider the stochastic background of gravitational waves produced by a network of cosmic strings and assess their accessibility to current and planned gravitational wave detectors, as well as to big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN), cosmic microwave background (CMB), and pulsar timing constraints. We find that current data from interferometric gravitational wave detectors, such as Laser Interfero...

متن کاملDirect searches for a cosmological stochastic gravitational wave background
LIGO has completed a series of observations searching for evidence of a stochastic gravitational wave background. There has been no detection to date. However the sensitivity of the observations is approaching the Big Bang nucleosynthesis bound. Future observations will provide information that bounds a number of early Universe models of stochastic gravitational waves.
متن کاملModulating the experimental signature of a stochastic gravitational wave background
Detecting a stationary, stochastic gravitational wave signal is complicated by impossibility of observing the detector noise independently of the signal. One consequence is that we require at least two detectors to observe the signal, which will be apparent in the cross-correlation of the detector outputs. A corollary is that there remains a systematic error, associated with the possible presen...
